Australian Finger Lime
Description
This small tree or large shrub is native to the east coast of Australia but now finding its way here! It can reach 20 ft tall and 16 ft wide but may take 15 years to do so. Evergreen leaves are aromatic and small. Watch out for long spines or thorns on these leaves! Flowers may be pink that fade to white during spring. Fruit is long and cylindrical, resembling fingers, from winter through spring. Fruit may be green, black, purple or red depending on cultivar. The pulp inside the fruit is edible and may be green, yellow or pink, with a citrus flavor. This citrus tree does best in full sun with well draining soil. Does not require much fertilizer compared to other citrus varieties.
