Description

Ghost Gum (Eucalyptus aparrerinja) is a large, evergreen tree native to Australia. It resembles a Eucalyptus and is in the same plant family. This is a tall tree that typically has a bare trunk and a broad, open canopy that can reach 50’ tall and 35’ wide. Small and medium gardens will not have the space this tree requires to reach its mature size and natural shape. Larger gardens would benefit from planting this beautiful tree so that it can be viewed from a distance. When the tree is young, it tends to be very skinny and tall and requires almost no pruning or shaping to achieve its mature size and shape. Once the tree reaches a size where it could benefit from some shaping, it is best to use a licensed arborist to do the work. It has a semi-weeping habit and produces little litter. This tree should be planted at least eight feet away from any hardscape areas, 15 feet from structures such as houses and buildings, and not near any powerlines. Shrubs and perennials should be planted about five feet away from this tree. It should be irrigated for about 45 minutes once a week when using most in-line drip irrigation systems.
